A delivery boy working with a third party vendor of Flipkart was arrested for allegedly cheating the e-commerce major by placing orders for iPhones from fake addresses and replacing them with fake ones while returning them to the company.
Flipkart, in a statement said, “This incident involves a third party delivery executive who was found guilty of duping Flipkart. The executive has been arrested and necessary action is being taken by the law enforcement authorities.”
According to reports, B Naveen, a graduate who started working with the logistics firm almost three to four months back, has allegedly placed orders for iPhone from fake addresses within his service area, in the city.
The phones delivered to the point were allegedly replaced by him with fake phones he purchased from a local market. The fake phones were sent back to the company with a complaint that the customer was not satisfied with the product. Before he gets caught, reports says that he was able to get almost 12 iPhones using this method.
He has been executing the fraud for almost a month and would have cheated the company for almost Rs 5 lakh worth phones, when the company noticed the increasing number of returns from a particular area and all of the returned pieces were fake. Naveen was arrested based on complaint from the warehouse owner, said the report.
Flipkart said that the company observes a zero tolerance policy on incidents that impact customer trust and there are stringent guidelines and regulations for everyone operating on its marketplace including the third party vendors. “We strictly and swiftly act against any violations,” said company spokesperson.
